ABOUT DANIEL A. RIZZI
Daniel is a self-taught Artist specializing in both Plein Air and Studio Original Oil Paintings.
BACKGROUND
Since a very young age I have always had an interest in Art, specializing in both Plein Air and Original Studio Paintings. I have endeavored to pull the viewer into the completed artwork by applying an array of various painting techniques. I am for the most part self taught. Having attended several and various one day instructional courses, studying museum pieces, and viewing various art reference materials, I am in a constant effort of improving my own works.
Through the past 20 years I have mostly worked with oils on canvas and board, participating in various plein air painting events throughout Wisconsin; painting from life outdoors. Much of my current work is representative of this Plein Air discipline. I try to capture the light and atmosphere of a scene. I believe that a painting is not just a two dimensional illusion, but also that of a moment in life, captured by the artist on canvas.
I choose most subjects to paint by what inspires me, then by the lighting, and lastly work to place the composition as needed. In my travels, I have come to realize there are times when my subjects choose me; for instance, sometimes I will wander at length in search of a subject to paint, then there are times where I can be driving along and glance at a scene and immediately know that the scene was placed there, in that moment of time, for me to paint. Painting is a never ending journey for me, with the hope that my body of work will be enjoyed by others well into the future.
PLEIN AIR
He is a member of Waters Edge Artists- (WEA) "painters for preservation" and their art reflects a passionate interest in the conservation of land, waters, and historical sites in Wisconsin and beyond. The unique group of painters had been established as a fellowship of artists dedicated to promoting and practicing the traditional discipline of Plein Air painting (painting outdoors, from life). They meet on a regular basis to critique their work, and share expertise with fellow artists in order to maintain the highest standards of the plein air tradition of painting. Through sales of their paintings they have raised funds to further the conservation initiatives of the Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust, Niagara Escarpment Resource Network, Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin and others.
STUDIO
Daniel also works in his studio to create original Studio oil paintings working from plein air works, reference sketches, and photos. By using plein air studies, sketches, or by combining photos, he works to create pleasing compositions and color combinations. This unique combining of references has been a favorite of commissioned art buyers.
Works of art by this artist have been shown in many galleries and also during many Plein Air Events throughout Wisconsin.
He is a member of the Plymouth Arts Center, Milwaukee Art Museum, and Museum of Wisconsin Art.
